5 Reasons We Believe Sailing Holidays Remain A Safe Option
So here we are after 40 days on the water, covering 3416 nautical miles (6326kms), having just delivered a Lagoon 42 catamaran from Les Sables, France all the way to Split, Croatia.
And how amazing it is to see how much the world has changed in that short time. How much our business and every day life has been affected. Of course, it’s not just us. The coronavirus pandemic has upended daily life around the globe, and travel has been one of the hardest-hit industries.
So Many Questions
So first off, let’s start by answering all of your questions. Today, the question that most are asking now we are home. Is it still safe to charter a yacht for a sailing holiday during/after the coronavirus outbreak?
We’d start this by saying that it’s important to note that no travel can ever be 100% risk free, even more so as we watch the changes happening during this first half of 2020. And objectively, we believe a private yacht charter is a much safer holiday option when compared to high-end hotel stays, resorts or cruise liners for a number of reasons:
End-to-end private transport means you do not have to interact with the general public at all.
The flexibility of a yacht charter also means you can choose where you want to go. Especially in times like this, you can simply choose to avoid crowded areas on land and stick to peaceful spots like little beaches and hidden coves. In some places you can even get food and necessities delivered to your yacht so that you are still able to experience the local island cuisine and products.
With only, Nick and I on board with you and your family, it’s so much easier to keep track of potential exposure to the virus. With all living on board, contact with members of the public outside of your family on the yacht, is limited. Days spent at anchor enjoying the ocean, fresh air and onboard facilities will keep you a world away from the happenings on land.
You can be assured cleaning is carried out every day to ensure a clean and sterile on-board space for guests. Cleanliness has always been and will continue to be an on-board priority. And in this current climate, when cleanliness is even more important, living in an enclosed space together, we have strict processes in place to ensure maximum cleanliness at all time to safeguard ourselves and of course, you, our guests.
Cruising along the coast and hopping between islands, we see yachts are like little havens on the water. That’s definitely how we felt sailing from France to Croatia over the past two months. It felt like we were in our own little world most of the time.
And with our guided tours there’s little need to go ashore at all. Dinners can be arranged in advance, so you won’t miss out on local delights. Reprovisioning, refuelling, and waste disposal will be handled according to the highest standards. Even in inclement weather we can remain anchored off shore if necessary.
Imagine for the most part, you can spend your entire trip, on deck if you want to, sailing if you prefer, taking time out to simply enjoy the amazing sights, spending your days, soaking up the sun and making the most of what nature and the Adriatic sea has to offer, along with all the yacht’s facilities.
We are consistently keeping abreast of developments as dictated by relevant authorities and governments.
Plus, we believe it’s important not to let media hype affect our decisions, and to look at practical, reasonable and flexible solutions to private family yacht experiences for 2020 and beyond.
