  5. Charter Prep – Provisioning Tips (Trogir)

As you prepare to set sail on your charter adventure along the stunning Croatian coast, one of the first things on your to-do list is provisioning your yacht.

While the local marinas may offer basic supplies, Croatia has so much more to offer in terms of fresh, local, and unique products that will make your sailing experience truly unforgettable. So we’ve put together a guide to help you navigate the best spots in Trogir to stock up on everything you need—and a few things you didn’t know you needed!

Most of the marinas here in Croatia have a small supermarket within the marina itself, and they are generally not well-equipped enough to provision adequately for a charter. Great for beers and ice creams.

Supermarkets

If you are chartering from the Trogir area, there are a couple of medium sized super-markets up on the main road that connects Seget Donji and Trogir, a Studenac and a Tommy market, both of which are very close to each other. If you head into Trogir, there is a Konzum near the main turn off to the old town. This is the main large supermarket in town though, so it gets very, VERY crowded in summer and on Saturdays especially. If you have access to a car or you want to go to a large supermarket to provision, on the airport side of Trogir, there is a large Kauflands supermarket and a Lidl super market right across the road. As far as variety and stock, these two supermarkets are going to be your best options for most of your provisioning needs.

And, what if you want some extra special items?!

Coffee

Trogir has three specialty coffee shops:

Tinel and Chi are able to freshly grind beans to suit whatever method of extraction you prefer. The yachts usually have a moka pot (also known as Berlotti or the stovetop espresso) and should definitely have a Turkish coffee pot on-board. If you prefer French Press or Aero Press, you’ll need to bring your own.

Local products

Trogir has an amazing fresh fruit and vegetable market. Not only do they sell fruit and veg, you can also buy:

  • farm fresh eggs
  • wine and rakija/liker
  • local olive oil
  • honeys
  • cured meats
  • local cheeses
  • local preserved items like olives, capers, anchovies, octopus, and more!

LOCAL PRO TIP: Do not buy olive oil at the supermarket! Local olive oil is far superior to most of the stuff you get in supermarkets and buying it direct is what we recommend. For those of us who don’t have an olive oil contact, the fresh market is the place to buy it. Anywhere will do. Just make sure it is that lovely luscious dark green.

Craft Beer

Croatia has some great craft breweries and, according to people other than me who know what theyre talking about when it comes to beer, has some really great craft beers! They are harder to find out on the islands and can also sometimes be hard to find in regular supermarkets on the mainland. In Trogir, we have an aptly named little shop called The Drink Shop right on the waterfront of the Old Town. They have a great selection of craft beers and are super easy to find. Win/win!

Wine & Alcohol

When it comes to stocking up on wine and spirits, for your Croatian sailing adventure, you’re in for a treat. Croatia is known for its excellent local wines and during your week you are sure to find some real gems on the islands. And if you’re looking to stock up before you leave the mainland, supermarkets offer a great selection of both local and imported wines and good prices. You can also check out any Diskont stores you might see around. Open longer hours than the supermarkets these stores specialise in discounted alcohol, often featuring a wider variety of options, local and international. Whatever you fancy we’re sure you’ll find plenty of choices to suit your taste.

So there you have it, your ultimate guide to provisioning in Trogir pre-charter!

As you embark on your Croatian sailing adventure, make sure to take the time to explore these local spots, stock up on the best the region has to offer, and savour every moment of your time on the water. After all, good food, great coffee, and the perfect craft beer (substitute with wine or gin as per your preference) are all part of what makes sailing in Croatia such a unique and memorable experience.

Safe travels and smooth sailing — let the adventure begin!
