What is a Crewed Charter?
A crewed charter is your own private yacht with a professional crew onboard, and the difference is simple: everyone gets to relax.
Your skipper takes care of the sailing. Your crew keep the week running smoothly, so nobody gets stuck shopping, cooking or managing the holiday to-do list. You set the pace; your crew handles all the details for you.
Especially For
Families/friends who want to relax and everyone have a break
Honeymoon couples looking for privacy and discretion
Special occasions where the little details make the difference
Non-sailors (or sailors looking to switch off and simply enjoy the week)
What you handle (typical)
Payments per your charter contract
Personal preferences, pace, and daily choices
What your skipper and crew handle
Marinas, reservations, fuel/water, timings so your week runs smoothly
Onboard comfort with shared spaces kept easy and tidy
Provisioning, meals, with the right mix of onboard and ashore
The best spots, activities and bookings without the research or admin
Total Privacy, True Freedom, Tailored Especially for You
Here’s the bit most people don’t realise: a crewed charter doesn’t automatically mean superyacht pricing.
There are genuinely great options across different budgets, from adding a skipper and hostess to a bareboat charter, to curated crewed packages, joining a 45D Premium Tour with Nick & Mahina, right through to full-service luxury yachts with the works.
Prices can start from €10k for smaller hosted groups in the off-season and scale all the way to ultra-luxury.
Our role is to match you with the right yacht and the right crew, to protect your experience – Crewed Charters done properly.
Most people don’t actually want “a yacht charter.” They want a certain kind of week.
So let’s start by choosing your vibe, then we’ll handle the matching.
Crewed Charters
The Three Main Types
Bareboat
+ Skipper + Hostess
You charter the yacht like a bareboat charter. You remain responsible for the yacht, security deposit, and choosing optional extras.
You add the crew so the sailing and hosting is handled, meals are light and clearly defined (usually breakfast and lunch).
“We’re looking for support without the price tag”
Bundled
Yacht + Crew inclusive
A ready-made setup where your yacht and crew come as a bundle with a set service level, often meals and inclusions, agreed upfront.
Feels like: a real holiday, provisioning, breakfast and lunch are handled (sometimes dinner too).
“We just want to switch off”
Bespoke
Full-service luxury
You want: a premium yacht, a professional crew, and a step up in comfort and finish.
Feels like: your own private villa on the water, relaxed, calm, everything quietly taken care of (no stiff formalities)
“We want the best week ever”
APA: The infamous ‘APA’ (Advanced Provisioning Allowance) is a term used in charter, even when their os no provisioning involved! Often the biggest use of this is not even provisions.
The APA is a set allowance to cover all of the fluctuating costs on a charter. This could included:
- Fuel
- Provisions
- Drinks
- Alcohol
- Port Fees
- Tips for dock staff for assistance or reservations
- Water Taxis
- Skipper/Crew Dinners
Important note: On all crewed charters when booked through 45 Degrees Sailing, the crew require a guest cabin with private bathroom for the week and you cover their meals.
A quick fit check (so we don’t waste your time — or ours)
We’re not for everyone, and that’s deliberate. We specialise in crewed full service sailing holidays that feel easy, respectful, and properly hosted. Think floating villa, not floating bus.
We’re a great fit if you care about:
- Comfort and quality over squeezing maximum people onboard
- A crew who can deliver great service because they’re supported and treated well
- Clear expectations: what’s included, what’s not and how your APA works
- A week that feels calm, well-run, and genuinely for all onboard (both guests and crew)
We might not be the right crewed charter company for you if:
- You’re chasing the cheapest deal you can find
- Your goal is “the more the merrier" onboard (space/privacy don’t matter)
- You’re planning a party boat week
- You have no respect for your crew, they are professionals, central to an enjoyable week
- You’re happy to compromise on crew privacy (or rely on “crew cabins”) just to squeeze in numbers
If that sounds like you, you’ll find plenty of listing-style charter sites that are better aligned.
And if you want a crewed charter done properly, you’re in the right place.
So, what does your budget get you?
(realistically)
Pricing clarity up front: When we discuss your indicative budget or quote a price, we are referring to the Charter Fee (VAT inclusive) as you can see by the ranges below.
Crewed charters will also have an APA “trip wallet” to add to the charter fee for running costs (provisioning onboard, fuel, ports/moorings and other guest requests). We explain APA in plain English below.
Quick reality check: if you’re 10–12+ guests, the right answer is usually a gulet / larger, pricier catamarans / two yachts — not a squeezed catamaran.

€10–20k
Crewed Starter
(best for 4–6, sometimes up to 8)
Yes, a crewed charter around €10-20k is possible, typically for smaller groups who want a hosted feel without luxury pricing.
How it usually works: it’s more of a build-your-own crewed charter, we help you choose the yacht (monohull or catamaran), select the right crew and define the expected service level clearly.
What you’re trading off: yacht size/space/age, fewer toys, less extras included, leaner crew setup.
Expect: Charter Fee + insurance/security deposit + crew + optional extras + APA.
€25–40k
Group Crewed Sweet Spot
(8-10 guests)
This is where bigger groups start to feel easy: space, comfort, and a crew setup that can genuinely look after you.
Typical yachts: 40ft+ catamarans with layouts designed for groups
Crew: most often two
Meals: usually breakfast + lunch (sometimes dinner — depending on your yacht and crew agreement)
Expect: Charter Fee (often including crew) + optional extras + APA
€35–50k
Quiet Luxury Sweet Spot
(up to 8 guests)
This is our sweet spot, where we excel. A luxury feel without mega-yacht pricing. You’re paying for finish, comfort and service, not maximum beds. Your crew are often onboard for the season and 100% focused on creating the best week onboard they can for you.
Typical yachts: boutique luxury catamarans, not just “standard charter cats”
Crew: usually 2–4
Meals: usually half board and often closer to a fully hosted feel (varies by yacht/crew)
Expect: Charter Fee (VAT incl.) + APA
€50–90k
Luxury Step-up
(8-10 guests)
This is where everything feels more polished: higher spec yachts, more crew, and a smoother overall experience.
Crew: typically 2–4+
Meals & service: often full-board (depending on your preference)
Expect: Charter Fee (VAT incl.) + APA
€100k+
Fully Hosted, Fully Handled
(usually up to 12/15+)
Floating boutique-hotel level: bigger teams, bigger comfort, and the version where you don’t manage anything once you arrive.
We shortlist the best fits, then take care of the details from transfers to final farewell.
Crew: can be 6–10+ depending on the yacht and service level
Meals & service: full-service, high standard, high comfort
Expect: Charter Fee €100k+ (VAT incl.) + APA (significant)
Crewed Charter - Case Study
Kathleen Dorias - Sunreef 50 'Zara'
Dorais Family chartered the Sunreef 50 Zara on a half-board crewed package, and the focus from day one was making the whole experience feel easy and well-managed. We helped align the brief to the right platform and crew, clarified what was included up front, and guided the practical details that can trip people up — especially when organising a charter from overseas.
Beyond the yacht itself, we supported the wider trip logistics, keeping family movements and transfers running smoothly and helping shape the week with local suggestions. Onboard, Zara delivered exactly what they were looking for: a comfortable, higher-standard catamaran, a well-paced itinerary, and hosting that made the days feel relaxed and properly looked after.
Extras Booked:
Accomodation, Airport Transfers, Off the water excursions
Group size matters
(and we’re picky about this on purpose)
Up to 6–8 guests
Great range of options. Comfort is easy to do properly.
8–10 guests
Crewed catamarans work well here when the yacht layout and crew setup are right.
10–12 guests
Here’s our line in the sand: we don’t sell crewed charters that squeeze maximum people onboard and have crew sleep in non-private spaces or “crew cabins” that wouldn’t be acceptable for any guest — especially not the people you’re trusting with your family for the week.
If you’re 10–12 guests, we’ll usually guide you toward:
- a gulet (built for hosting big groups properly), or
- a yacht with the right layout (expect a higher price), or
- two yachts (more space, more bathrooms, a better week)

The options for a seven day itinerary in Croatia are so vast that it is hard to sum it up into one or two single itineraries.
Many factors will come into making this decision such as where you depart from, the type of vessel you are Sailing, the ability and nature of your crew, and most importantly, what sort of week you are after.
For first time visitor to Croatia, we often suggest the route from the Split region through the islands of Hvar, Brač, Vis and Śolta offer a great variety of hidden coves, calm bays and picture old towns to explore.
For more adventurous itineraries wanting to do more hours on the water, you can heat out to islands like Lastovo and Sušac to get away from the crowds and get full in touch with nature.
