Skippered Charter
Relax while a pro handles the helm [No experience required]
What is a 'Skippered Charter'?
A skippered charter is where a skipper is hired to navigate and operate the yacht you have chosen to charter, allowing you and guests, to relax and enjoy your time on the Adraitic without any sailing experience.
Your skipper takes care of boat handling, safety, docking and anchoring while you choose the place, pace and pitstops. It’s ideal if you don’t have a license or simply prefer not to skipper with family and friends on board.
Who is it for?
• For those who want a sailing holiday and don’t have a licence/experience
• Families/groups who’d rather relax and be guided
• Experienced sailors who want a stress-free week onboard
SKIPPERED Charters
The Three Main Types
Bareboat + Skipper
Catamaran or Monohull
You choose the yacht (bareboat charter) you want, then you add a skipper (from the charter company or from 45D). As the charterer, you are responsible for the yacht so you sign the charter contract, pay any security deposit or deposit insurance payable along with any other optional extras e.g., SUPs, nets, early check-in etc that you require.
“Skippered Charter” package (yacht + skipper bundled)
Catamaran or Monohull
Many fleets charter yachts including a season-assigned skipper. The skipper will already have a cabin reserved for them and will be familiar with the yacht. Often this type of skippered charter will be on the larger catamarans. Depending on the charter companies standard charter terms you will remain responsible for paying all yacht fees, the deposit/waiver along with all onboard costs; the skipper is part of the package, making logistics simple.
45D Premium Skippered (Mila Felice with Nick)
Monohull – Mila Felice
Up to 6 guests will join Nick aboard Mila Felice for a single price with almost everything included. No security deposit or deposit insurance requires payment. Optional extras like paddleboards, snorkel sets, coffee machine, ice maker, hammocks are included.
You only take care of food for the week (for your group and your skipper).

Important note: On all three skippered charters, when booked through 45 Degrees Sailing, the skipper requires a guest cabin with direct access to a bathroom (not through another cabin) for the week and you cover their meals.

Skippered Charter - Case Study
Ruth Sayers Hanse 388 'Fufu'
Ruth and her crew chartered a near-new Hanse 39 with a professional skipper (Ivan Lukanovic) through our preferred partner MK Yacht Explorer. We helped them move from an initial bareboat plan to a skippered setup that better suited Croatia, then quickly shortlisted the right yacht, matched them with the right skipper, and kept the pre-charter details tight — from early route guidance to making sure handover, paperwork, and day-one logistics were seamless.
Extras Booked:
2x SUP, Ice Machine, Beach Towels

Frequently Asked Questions
In a dedicated cabin (not the saloon or in the coffins).
You do, either onboard or ashore with the crew (this needs elaborating re: daily rate etc)
Yes—tell us and we’ll match you with a teaching-friendly skipper
You and your skipper collaborate; safety and conditions guide the final call.
Yes for types 1 & 2; not for 45D Premium Skippered on Mila Felice.
Each charter company is different with what they include and all should have standard safety gear and inventory that you can check in the yacht details. Not included: fuel, moorings/berths, tourist tax, national-park fees, and any optional extras (e.g., skipper, host, early check-in).
That’s awesome and we are not in the business of price cutting. We are not going to be the cheapest as we value our team and the services we provide. So while you might pay more, we know you will get so much more for your buck Need to put this one together
Great, we will always encourage you to shop around. And we’re not in the price-cutting game; we invest in our team and service, so we have no problem saying we won’t be the cheapest.
Usually the same yacht/week/terms, prices are close if not identical, so if a quote looks lower feel free to send it over and we’ll check it apples-to-apples; if it’s genuinely better, we’ll say so (and match if we can). Book with us when you want the right boat, a clean handover, and a real escalation path—value that protects your holiday.
A security deposit is the amount you leave on hold on your credit card or in cash at the charter office in case of damages to the boat. If on return, you have damaged the boat to the value of €1000 then you will have that deducted from your security deposit. If you damage the boat beyond the amount of the security deposit (let’s assume the security deposit is €3000 for this example) then €3000 is the maximum amount you will be charged. It is effectively the excess on the insurance policy the yacht has. If you return with no damage, then the entire security deposit is returned to you.
Deposit insurance is when you purchase a separate insurance policy to insure your €3000 security deposit.
In this instance say that policy is €400 plus a €400 refundable portion. If you return the boat undamaged then you will receive €400 back. But you have paid €400 for the policy. If you return with damage, then the maximum amount lost €800. So you just do not receive back the refundable amount.
